Commissioners weighed the cost of deferring work (which would lead to more costly pavement replacement) against the need to find supplemental funds. Given the county’s fund balance position and deferred-maintenance risk, the board approved a supplemental budget appropriation to cover the additional chip-seal cost and authorized staff to proceed with the vendor selection and award process.
Road & Bridge indicated chip-and-seal frequency is typically every seven years for roads and that the current bid reflected rising unit costs. Staff will process a supplemental budget and return with final contract documentation.
