West Bend schools honor state‑qualifying athletes; student reps share upcoming events

At the April 13 meeting, the West Bend board and athletics staff recognized numerous student athletes who qualified for state competitions across multiple winter and spring sports.
Paul Vogel, West Bend West boys varsity bowling coach, noted Jared Becker was a multi‑year state qualifier whose season included 80% of frames ending in strikes or spares and who finished 91st at the individual state tournament. Coaches for swim and dive, wrestling, snowboarding and skiing each introduced their state qualifiers and summarized placings and record performances: Drew Gundrum posted all‑time fast times for West Bend (100 free 45.27, 100 back 49.43), the boys swim relays produced top‑10 finishes, Jack Labinski finished third at state in wrestling, Gavin Schauble won slalom at state and later won at USASA nationals despite an injury, and ski qualifiers helped boys and girls teams place seventh and ninth respectively.
Student representatives Haley Kister and Bella Downs provided student life updates including the pre‑ACT on April 16, an autism awareness soup night April 27, a student council conference April 18–20, the Civics Games state final on May 1, SEED Earth Day activities and a May 12 Battle of the Bands. The board offered congratulations and public applause for the athletes and student organizers.
