The Marple Newtown School Board’s curriculum, instruction and technology committee on April 14 reviewed a revised kindergarten report card designed to align with updated standards and the district’s grade 1–5 format, while preserving a semester schedule for kindergarten. Committee members also listed motions for two student trips, summer ELL book adoptions at Lumis and Whirl libraries and a services contract signature for staff opening-day activities in August 2026.
Miss Adabelli, the committee chair for curriculum items, introduced the motions and said there were no additions to the agenda. "We have a motion here for two student trips, our summer ELL program book adoptions and requesting the signature on a contract for services during our opening day," she said.
Chris, who led the kindergarten report-card presentation, said the new card was developed collaboratively with kindergarten teachers and parents and intended to reduce overlap with the separate kindergarten assessment used at parent–teacher conferences. "This report card was crafted specifically for our kindergarteners and kindergarten parents," Chris said, adding that district staff surveyed current grade-one parents about clarity, efficiency and alignment and received overwhelmingly positive responses.
The facilities/transportation agenda included a contract motion with First Student; a presenter said the contract is intended to give transportation staff flexibility to meet requirements under the McKinney-Vento Act to transport students temporarily displaced outside district boundaries and maintain service for those students. The contract was listed for committee review; no vote was recorded in the committee transcript.
Next steps: the motions for student trips, book adoptions and the opening-day services contract were placed on the agenda for action at the appropriate board meeting; the First Student transportation contract remained on the facilities/transportation agenda for review.
