Council accepts larger Oak Park stormwater grant; city commitment unchanged

The Mauldin City Council voted unanimously Oct. 7 to accept an increased grant award for the Oak Park stormwater project and adopted a resolution to reflect the new amount.
Staff told the council engineers expanded the project scope after initial drawings and mapping, and additional ARPA-derived grant money was offered to cover the higher cost without increasing the city’s match. The award was reported as $2,883,185.15, and the city’s funding commitment was reported to remain $676,050.
Mr Reynolds moved to approve the resolution to accept the additional funding; the motion received a second and passed by voice vote. City staff said the grant administrator required the resolution within 30 days of the award in order to finalize the amended award.
Officials said the expanded scope came after more detailed engineering showed the project needed more funding than initially expected. Council members expressed support for moving the project forward so crews could proceed.
The resolution directs staff to complete required paperwork to secure the additional funding and move forward with procurement and construction contracting steps. The council had no further discussion and approved the measure by unanimous voice vote.
