Plasterville — The City Council on April 14 approved a full closure of Main Street between Bedford Avenue and Sacramento Street on Saturday, June 6, 2026, for Golden History Days and the Highway 50 wagon-train arrival, including a memorial procession honoring community member Davy Dockeiser.
Event organizers described vendors, volunteer-run activities for nonprofits, a memorial service at the bell tower and a procession that will include a horsedrawn hearse and stage coach; they requested the council extend the time to clear vendors and equipment to 6 p.m. to allow for safe removal after the memorial events. Council approved the extended clear-out hour.
Merchants and council members discussed how to make the event economically beneficial for downtown businesses. Several council members and merchant representatives urged organizers to encourage attendees to “turn around and put butts in the restaurants” during the event and to use public announcements to send visitors into nearby shops and eateries.
Organizers said they will coordinate additional shuttles and staging and that vendors will begin breaking down at 4:30 p.m., with the council-approved extension to 6:00 p.m. to finish clearance.
The event will also include a community memorial for Davy Dockeiser; organizers said a guest book will be available for attendees to record memories for an obituary and tribute. Council members praised the volunteer organizers and encouraged merchants to engage attendees to boost local sales on event day.
