A Bethlehem Area School District teacher asked the curriculum committee for permission to advertise an optional, privately organized student trip to Ireland, Scotland and England in June 2027.
"I would like in June of 2027 to take some students to Ireland, Scotland, and England, uh through EF tours," Mr. Christian Curet said, describing the trip as an opportunity to align with 11th-grade English themes and to give students international exposure and independence. He volunteered to serve as a chaperone.
Mr. Curet described a proposed itinerary that begins with several days in Ireland and Scotland, including Edinburgh, followed by time in England, and said the experience would build students’ confidence and curricular connections (for example, Shakespeare in senior year).
Board members thanked Mr. Curet for organizing the trip and underscored safety logistics. One member noted a recommended chaperone-to-student ratio of about 1:6 for managing students in crowded public spaces and through airport procedures.
District staff reiterated that the requested action is limited to permission to advertise and distribute information; Mr. Curet’s presentation made clear the trip is organized through an external vendor and would be "100% outside of the Bethlehem Area School District" in coordination and cost.
The committee received the information; no formal district-funded commitment or board approval to run the trip was taken during the session.
