State fee changes prompt Franklin to amend lodging licensing schedule; renewals due end of June

City of Franklin health department staff told the board on April 13 that the state revised the hotel, motel and tourist rooming-house chapter of the state code, resulting in an increase in state licensing and preinspection fees. To remain consistent with the state changes, the department proposed an amended local fee schedule that the city council approved on March 3.
Staff said annual license renewals will be mailed in early May and are due back by the end of June. The department noted that hotels, motels and similar lodging must be inspected before licensing and that staff are providing educational outreach to license holders to explain the new requirements.
Separately, staff reported that plan reviews have begun for several new businesses (the transcript lists Costco and an Aldi-type review), and seasonal event permitting is under way for summer months as the environmental health program prepares for inspections connected to food trucks and community events.
No fee amounts were listed in the meeting record; staff said updated rates are equivalent to the state increases and will be reflected in mailed renewals.
