Early said the nonprofit hired a professional manager who began work April 1 and that the pool is expected to open around May 4 after multiple staff trainings. A grant‑funded heater has been installed and was being brought up to temperature to support upcoming junior lifeguard training and seasonal programming. Early said the organization has 12 lifeguard candidates (including eight returners and four who are not yet in high school) and is working with Curry Aquatic Safety and Southwestern Oregon Community College on training and workforce development.
Early also discussed grant applications to supplement lesson programming for homeschool students and a planned donor recognition display at the pool; she thanked the city and staff (including Tony and Wendy) for help installing equipment. Early requested that the city renew the operating agreement (which she said recently expired) and suggested placing that item on the next council meeting agenda.
Council members praised the nonprofit’s outreach, noted donation channels on the city website and asked staff to place the agreement renewal on the next council agenda so elected officials could consider formal renewal.
