Palos Park council approves consent agenda, pump replacements and warrants; public raises parking and speed concerns

At its April 13 meeting the Palos Park Village Council approved its consent agenda and several operational purchases and heard public comments about local parking and traffic.
Consent and warrants: The consent agenda included adoption of Ordinance 2026-04 setting single-family residential waste-collection rates through April 30, 2031; an amendment reducing the number of Class A liquor licenses after the closure of Stony Point Grill 3 LLC (12900 S. La Grange Rd.); approval to apply for state special events liquor licenses and liability coverage for the Iron Man in the Park festival (Sept. 18–19, 2026); a resolution to close a portion of McCarthy Road for the Sept. 19 parade (11 a.m.–3 p.m.); payment of warrant list invoices totaling $107,202.09; and a supplemental warrant list of $663,115.86 for manual checks, payroll and recurring transfers. The consent agenda was adopted by roll call with all present voting yes.
Public works purchases: Using funds budgeted in the 2025–2026 budget, the council approved two Metropolitan Pump Company purchases to replace failing lift-station pumps: a $22,310 pump for the Ramsgate lift station and a $13,945 pump for the Rominga lift station. Commissioner Patan moved both measures; each passed by unanimous roll-call vote.
Other updates and services: Commissioner Patan reported recreation events including a fishing derby (~45 attendees), spring litter day (April 18), Kelseg Bike Ride (May 2), Arbor Day celebration (May 3) and summer camp registration. Clerk Kathy Williams announced a Mobile Secretary of State event (Mobile DMV) on May 14 in the Council Chambers; registration at 708-671-3700.
Public comment: Resident Mr. Ginta raised concerns about early-morning parking congestion at the village gas station (he reported more than 30 cars during one morning), speeding and noise along Route 45 and Southwest Highway, and alleged unauthorized tape lighting on storefronts at 119th Street. The council did not take immediate enforcement action on those items during the meeting.
The meeting adjourned after a roll-call vote.
