The City of Muskego formally honored Tom Zagar on April 14 with Resolution 027‑2026, thanking him for 28 years of service as lakes project coordinator, conservation coordinator and city forester. The council approved the resolution unanimously.
Reading the resolution into the record, the clerk recited Zagar’s contributions: advancing conservation planning, guiding ecological restoration, expanding conservation lands and helping return osprey and bald eagles to nesting in the city’s waterways and preserves. The resolution credited Zagar with helping expand the city’s conservation lands to more than 550 acres.
Zagar addressed the council and reflected on the work and partnerships that produced those outcomes. "I feel like I worked hard toward protecting the ecological resources in Mosqu... I brought in approximately $3 million in grants over my tenure," Zagar said. He described habitat restoration, volunteer projects (including more than 15 Eagle Scout efforts), partnerships with nonprofits and the role of landfill‑settlement funds (10% designated to conservation, as he described it) in supporting projects.
Zagar thanked staff, volunteers and elected officials and said he plans to continue contributing as a volunteer after his retirement. After remarks and comments from council members praising his legacy and naming a likely successor, the council voted to adopt the resolution and extended its best wishes to Zagar in retirement.
The resolution and Zagar’s remarks are on the record; grant totals and some historical details were stated by Zagar and not independently substantiated during the meeting.
