Gary Weaver, associate provost at Columbia International University (CIU), told the meeting that CIU has experienced rapid enrollment growth and outlined the institution's strategic priorities.
"Today, the enrollment is about 3,200 students," Weaver said, describing growth from about 1,400 students in 2018'19. He said roughly 800 students are on campus with the remainder off-campus or enrolled online. Weaver said CIU is launching expansion in programs including nursing, biomedical science and business, and is planning student housing and academic facilities to match enrollment growth.
Weaver said CIU will break ground soon on an apartment-style residence hall that will add about 120 beds and that the university plans a $22 million science building to expand nursing and health-science programs. He also said CIU secured several grants totaling about $420,000 to partner with Sandhills Community Church to open a community counseling clinic focused on local mental-health needs.
Weaver highlighted that CIU's early nursing cohorts achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX exam for the first two graduating classes and described moves to diversify academic offerings, strengthen the endowment and pursue sustainable growth models.
He encouraged campus engagement with community events and described CIU's K'12 partner school Ben Lippen and wider community service initiatives.
