Central York School District held a districtwide "Voice and Choice" professional development day on April 1 that combined instructional sessions and staff‑focused wellness offerings, district leaders told the curriculum committee.
Director Oliver said the morning sessions focused on classroom instruction, social‑emotional learning and relationship building, while the afternoon emphasized wellness topics including physical health, nutrition and financial literacy. Most presentations were led by district teachers; the director said a small number of outside vendors supported financial‑literacy sessions.
The district collected feedback from presenters and participants and conducted an after‑action review to identify improvements for next year. Director Oliver credited organizers Kelsey, Zach, Erica and Abby for assembling the catalog and building the online registration platform, and named Jill and Rob for planning support.
As one example of the program’s atmosphere, Director Oliver described a drum‑circle session at the middle school led by Mr. Worley and Mr. Heisey that drew approximately 20 staff from across departments. A committee member relayed participant comments and direct quotes including "Favorite professional day ever," "Engaging," and "Productive."
Committee members offered unanimous praise for the event; no formal action was taken at the meeting. The district said it has tentatively scheduled a similar professional day for next year.
