Middle school ELA committee will finalize vendor recommendation after Salterton visit

District staff told the curriculum committee they are close to a recommendation for middle school English language arts materials after a yearlong review. The team finished school visits, including a session with Salterton Area School District to observe StudySync and HMH’s Into Literature in practice, and gathered feedback from teachers, a middle school principal and the district curriculum director.
The presenter said the review prioritized teacher experience, technology and implementation logistics. "We finished our last of our school visits...we were able to visit a local school district in regards to the StudySync program," the presenter said, noting the subcommittee met with multiple teachers and school leaders.
The district plans a meeting tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the middle school to finalize a formal recommendation to the curriculum committee and will hold a brief meeting next week at 4:45 prior to the policy committee meeting to present the recommendation with Mr. Eisner, the middle school principal, and Mrs. Larstein, the language arts department chair.
No vote occurred at this session; staff said they expect to present a single recommendation to the full curriculum committee after the final meeting.
