Lee County posts two‑year school calendar draft for public comment

Dr. David Sims, senior director of human resources and student and family services, told the board the district has prepared a two‑year calendar draft based on staff input and a calendar advisory committee.
"Our staff survey went out on October 10th... During that time, there were 324 responses collected," Dr. Sims said, summarizing the internal feedback. He told the board the survey asked stakeholders when they wanted school to finish, the number of pre‑planning and post‑planning days, and preferences for timing of breaks; more than 90 percent preferred a fall break in October and many respondents favored four or five pre‑planning days.
Dr. Sims said the district will post the draft for public comment starting tomorrow and that public input will run through Feb. 4. He said the district will collect that input, review any suggested changes and present a final two‑year calendar to the board at the February meeting.
Dr. Sims also reminded the board that state and district requirements (180 student instructional days, 190 staff days) constrain the calendar design, and emphasized the administration’s effort to combine internal staff feedback with community input before finalizing the schedule.
Next steps: the calendar draft will be available for community review during the public comment window; the administration will prepare a revised draft for board consideration in February.
