Olivia Padia Jackson, vice president for finance and operations at Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), briefed the Los Ranchos Board of Trustees on the proposed Higher Education Bond 3 and how its passage would affect CNM.
Padia Jackson told the board that bond projects at CNM would not increase taxpayer tax rates if voters approve the measure. She said a study associated with the bond estimates roughly 2,300 new jobs statewide would result from projects funded by the bond, including construction and professional services. For CNM specifically, she highlighted a proposed Center for Technical Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development to house maker-space activities, technology boot camps and a permanent home for the institution's current fuse maker space. She also cited planned health-and-safety improvements across seven CNM sites, including an integrated emergency broadcast system for campus alerts.
Padia Jackson encouraged residents to participate in expanded early voting beginning Oct. 19 and noted Election Day is Nov. 5. She closed by directing interested voters to the bond website and offering to answer questions after the presentation.
Trustee questions focused on local impacts and timing for projects. The presentation was informational; trustees did not take formal action on the bond.
