I.T. Director Danny Bissett told the Lapeer County Personnel Committee on April 23 that recent problems with the Board of Commissioners’ email accounts stemmed from the county’s old server, a change in vendors and SOPHOS blocking email forwarding. He said the new Microsoft 365 cloud implementation should resolve those issues and allow staff to configure commissioners’ email directly on their phones without requiring a VPN.
Bissett explained the technical causes in detail to the committee and said the cloud‑based Microsoft 365 environment removes the need for VPN‑based access. Commissioners asked questions and discussed the timeline and vendor changes. Chair Brad Haggadone requested that any future email or I.T. problems be communicated immediately to commissioners and said the county must improve how such issues are reported.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the I.T. report. The minutes record the presentation and the Chair’s request for improved communication as the outcome of the discussion.
