The Lambertville City Council held the first reading of Ordinance 22-24, which would add short-term rental (STR) provisions to the city code (Chapter 5-11) and provide enforcement mechanisms for repeated violations.
Council members discussed implementing a website-based complaint form so residents can report STR problems (noise, late-night disturbances). Lieutenant Brown and council members noted that the police maintain a list of short-term rental addresses at the station, which helps identify repeat incidents, but that improved reporting and follow-up would make enforcement more effective. One resident who reported an Airbnb disturbance said the police responded and quieted the unit but urged a better way for follow-up documentation and communication with owners.
Council voted to move the ordinance forward on first reading and scheduled the public hearing and second reading as required. Members said they will post a reporting link on the city website and follow up with the police to determine whether monthly reconciliation of incident reports and the STR address list can identify licenses at risk of revocation.
No licenses were revoked at the meeting. The ordinance will return for further hearings and potential adoption at a later date.
