Trustees approve donor and interpretive signs for Xander Park pavilion project

The Village of Cross Plains Board of Trustees on April 13 approved two signs related to the Lion's Legacy Pavilion project: a donor-recognition sign and an HM Xander family interpretive sign.

Staff explained both signs would be treated as community information signs (so no permit was required) and presented an AI rendering of the donor sign and a 2x3 interpretive panel. The donor sign would display donors and contribution amounts and include logos such as the village and Lions; plan commission recommended approving both signs and asked staff and the Lions to determine final locations that maximize visibility while avoiding maintenance or accessibility problems.

Trustees discussed placement concerns: the donor sign was initially proposed near the parking-lot entrance where elevation and sightlines could make an eight-foot sign less visible, and the interpretive sign's proposed placement near the kiosk was questioned for safety and accessibility where heavy foot traffic may occur. Staff said the interpretive sign had been requested by the Xander family and that the existing Eagle Scout kiosk could be relocated for reuse elsewhere in the village.

Trustees approved the donor sign and the interpretive sign by voice vote; placement will be coordinated between Lions Club representatives and village staff. Trustees and staff also discussed clarifying long-term maintenance and ownership responsibilities so that a future board will know who is responsible for replacement if signs fade or need repair.
