The Town of Oakland commission on April 14 adopted proclamations recognizing Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24) and commended the Oakland Nature Reserve for conservation and educational work.
Nicole O'Brien, identified in the meeting as OEP's director, thanked the commission and described the preserve's Earth Day celebration and family activities scheduled for Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. She also promoted remaining Firefly Nights dates and invited residents to attend.
The commission then moved and approved the consent agenda, which included approval of the March 24, 2026 regular meeting minutes, appointments and reappointments to the Appearance Review Board, amendments to agreements (including LPA0595 and WS100), an agreement with West Tree Services LLC, and purchase of water meters and disposal of obsolete computer mounts. The motion to accept the consent agenda was made and seconded and passed on a voice vote; the transcript records the affirmative response but does not record a roll-call tally.
Following the consent agenda, Meredith Ronnie and Laura Kendle were administered the oath of office and sworn in as members of the Appearance Review Board; both recited the standard oath to support the U.S. Constitution, Florida law, the town charter and code of ordinances, and to faithfully perform their duties.
Why it matters: Proclamations publicly recognize local conservation and community activities; the consent agenda bundles routine town business and approvals that enable staff to implement contracts and purchases; swearing in new board members ensures advisory panels remain staffed.
Next steps: Items approved on the consent agenda will proceed to implementation per departmental oversight; board members will assume their advisory duties on the Appearance Review Board.
