Metro launches public engagement for a 50‑year Future Vision, including youth input

Metro staff presented an update on the agency's Future Vision process, describing a charter-required 50‑year conceptual vision update and a broad public engagement plan.

Project managers said the Future Vision Commission (22 members) and a youth committee (about 21 members, ages 15–24) will work together to craft guiding principles and aspirations. Jess (project manager) and Laura (deputy project manager) urged committee members to share Metro's regional-values survey, which is open through May 15, and described planned engagement activities including a youth summit, a vision summit with cross-sector leaders and community outreach events through 2027.

Why it matters: The Future Vision is a voter‑adopted, long‑range conceptual framework that informs Metro's growth concept and downstream land‑use and functional plan updates. Metro staff noted the RTP will continue to use the existing growth concept as its geography until an updated growth concept is adopted.

Engagement and tools: Staff described outreach materials and tools, including a downloadable conversation kit for deeper small‑group discussions, library distributions, and partnerships with jurisdictions to promote participation. The team emphasized arts and culture as engagement techniques and said they will move locations for commission meetings around the region.

Next steps: Staff will synthesize survey and engagement inputs for the commission and youth committee, host the youth and vision summits over the summer, and bring a recommended vision to Metro Council in spring 2027. Staff invited C4 members to participate in events and to help recruit youth and rural participants.
