City accepts low bid and county’s $2 million contribution to widen Craft Road

Aldermen approved the low bid and acceptance of a county contribution for the Craft Road widening project (improvement from Church Road to College Road) during the Dec. 16 meeting.
Engineering staff reported that Leman Roberts submitted the apparent low bid and recommended award; Supervisor Medlin appeared before the board to present a $2 million county contribution approved by the county board. The city’s portion is expected to be roughly $2.4 million. Staff and the road manager discussed construction timing, traffic‑control plans and an effort to preserve two travel lanes when possible during construction.
The board moved and passed the award by voice vote and thanked county officials for the partnership. Staff said work would likely start after weather permits in the first quarter and that some work will occur during the school year with traffic‑control staging to maintain safety.
