La Mesa approves honorary Bill Walton Way sign after public debate over organizer role

Dillard described Walton’s career and community contributions, saying the designation would honor “one of our own” and planned a future ceremony. Several residents and councilmembers commended Walton’s local philanthropy and prior recognitions — including an existing Walk of Fame plaque and the Bill Walton Gymnasium at La Mesa Arts Academy.
