Board members moved and seconded motions to introduce and vote on multiple files, including file JB (Equal Educational Opportunities), file JF (Admission and Denial of Admission), file JFBA (Interdistrict Choice/Open Enrollment), file JICDT (Violent and Aggressive Behavior), and file JII (Student Concerns, Complaints and Grievances). Each motion was presented as an update from the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) to conform with Title IX regulations and was approved by roll call.
The board emphasized that these actions were first readings and first votes in the board's policy process. According to meeting discussion, the updates are intended to clarify roles and timelines and ensure district compliance with current federal requirements. A district staff member said, “I move to introduce file JB Equal Educational Opportunities,” as the board put that item to a vote.
Separately, the board heard information only on file IJ and IJL (instructional and library materials selection, adoption and reconsideration) and file KEC (public concerns about instructional materials). Those items were presented to comply with Senate Bill 25-063 and were not acted on; the board was told those policy changes would return for a vote at a subsequent meeting.
The motion votes recorded on the policies taken that evening were unanimously in favor by the directors present (recorded by roll call). The board chair and clerks confirmed each vote as the items were introduced and adopted for first-reading status.
Next steps: the instructional-materials policies tied to SB 25-063 will be scheduled for a formal vote at a future meeting; other policies will proceed through the district's normal policy-adoption process.
