Commission hears Polar Park update, HUD review of McNitefields and a commissioner announces temporary departure

Staff reported Polar Park playground installation is complete, HUD documents about McNitefields land-use restrictions are under legal review, tree removals at Southwood are delayed by weather, and a commissioner said this would be their last meeting for the foreseeable future because of health issues.
During the same meeting the commission heard several staff updates and a personnel announcement.
Randy reported that the Polar Park playground installation is finished and that restoration work (wood chips) will happen in spring once weather permits. He also said operations have not yet completed planned hazardous tree removals at Southwood because snow and poor conditions have limited crews; staff said priority work has focused on hazardous roadside trees and they will schedule remaining work when weather allows.
On McNitefields, staff said they received a document from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and that the city attorney is reviewing whether 1970s resolutions about land-use restrictions still apply. Staff expect to report back with legal guidance next month or at the March meeting.
A longtime commissioner announced they will step away from the commission for health reasons. "As of tonight, this will be my last meeting," the commissioner said, describing a medical situation that may keep them out for several months; colleagues thanked the commissioner for their service and wished them well.
The meeting adjourned after routine business and a brief motion to close.
