Budget committee previews flood-protection IGA, equipment purchases and ballpark repairs

The most prominent item was an intergovernmental agreement to fund operation and maintenance of the Bayou Cane flood protection structure, which the presenter described as necessary to keep the flood gate operable and protect Gibson and west Terrebonne areas. Presenter said the agreement coordinates parish participation with other area entities to maintain and dry‑dock the facility when needed.
Other resolutions included using the state contract to purchase Zoom phone subscriptions for parish voice‑over‑IP services; replacing a chiller at the Housing/Human Services Department building on 311; replenishing the utility department’s electrical warehouse inventory; and buying four trailer‑mounted pumps intended to divert or remove floodwaters. The committee also considered a change order to cover unforeseen structural, electrical, lawn and concrete repairs at Tony Cavallo Ballpark following inspections tied to parks the parish has assumed responsibility for.
Presenter said the committee called a public hearing for April 29 to amend the adopted 2026 operating budget to add an additional employee in the vegetation department and an employee in sanitation.
The committee’s items will move to the full council for consideration at the scheduled meeting.
