School board adopts student-conduct revisions, adds ban on "smart/AR/meta" glasses

Mrs. Lardy, reporting for the discipline committee, asked the committee to approve multiple revisions to the district’s Guide to Student Conduct, and the committee voted to adopt the changes.

The recommended edits include clarifying that uniform undershirts must be a solid color, adding gray to allowed sock colors, and expanding class 2 and class 3 infractions to explicitly cover being in unauthorized areas, failing to report to a specified location, and unauthorized selling or purchasing of goods on campus. The committee also proposed changing language from "used" to "possession" for electronic-device infractions and specifically adding "smart glasses" to devices disallowed under class 2 and class 3 infractions.

During discussion, board members questioned the capabilities of smart glasses, observing they can record, display internet content and be controlled by gestures. Officials said the revisions are intended to clarify the district’s existing prohibition on electronic devices by naming newer wearable devices that function as computers or cameras. Mrs. Lardy told the committee the revisions "correlate with the Senate bill 207 act 313."

A motion to adopt the revisions was moved by Miss Kson, seconded by Miss Lee Bowman, and the motion passed on the committee floor (transcript note: "Motion passes 110").

What this means: the district will add explicit language to its student conduct guide banning AI/AR/smart/meta glasses and expanding certain infractions; administrators said these changes are intended to provide clarity for staff and enforcement.
