St. Francois County sheriff seeks permission to apply for deputy salary supplement grant

Mike, of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office, asked the commission for permission to apply for the Deputy Sheriff’s Salary Supplement Fund (DSSF) through the Missouri Department of Public Safety.
He said the program provides a one-time annual supplement of about $3,000 for qualifying deputies, paid in quarterly claims of $750. “All of our deputies actually qualify for this grant because all of us make below 6999 annually,” Mike said, adding that the supplement is taxable.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about matching funds and administration. Mike confirmed there is no local match requirement and that the county files claims quarterly to receive the supplement. He also explained the grant tiers used to determine eligibility.
The commission voted to give the sheriff’s office permission to apply for the DSSF grant. The motion was seconded and carried.
The application does not commit the county to any ongoing local funding, and Mike said the county has applied for similar rounds in prior years when the program was available.
