Southampton board approves special-education annual plan for state submission

The Southampton County School Board approved the division’s special education annual plan April 13, authorizing its submission to the Virginia Department of Education.
Presenters said the plan serves as the local agreement for implementing federal and state special-education requirements. The plan outlines maintenance-of-effort estimates, set-aside amounts for services to parentally placed private-school or home-schooled students, and a Section 611 flow-through allocation intended to fund positions including paraprofessionals and an educational diagnostician. Presenters noted the plan funds roughly 28 full-time equivalent positions and resources for specialized equipment and preschool services.
Board members moved and seconded approval of the plan, which must be submitted to the state office of special education before the May submission deadline. The motion passed with no recorded opposition.
