The City Council heard the results of the fiscal‑year 2025 audit on April 14 from Gara of Hershwal & Company, who reported an unmodified — commonly referred to as "clean" — audit opinion and no material weaknesses or compliance findings.
“I'm pleased to report that the city received an unmodified opinion which is commonly referred to as a clean opinion,” Gara said during the presentation, adding that the city’s net position improved by about $2.7 million compared with the prior year. The auditor said the firm performed testing of cash handling, payroll, financial reporting, IT controls and other areas and encountered no unusual transactions or significant difficulties.
Council members congratulated city finance staff and the solid‑waste authority for their work; the mayor noted the award and recognition as a positive outcome for the city and said the auditor’s finding reflects a high level of disclosure and reporting quality.
The audit presentation included standard auditor disclosures: the audit provides reasonable, not absolute, assurance; management is responsible for financial statements; and auditors apply professional judgment and skepticism in testing. The council received the presentation and had no follow‑up requests during the meeting.
