The Hanover Area School District Board of Education on April 14 approved a series of routine general, financial and personnel recommendations and appointed John Williams as a part‑time cleaner, the board said.
The board opened the meeting with a Sunshine Act disclosure that it held an executive session at 4:30 p.m. to discuss employee relations, labor negotiations and threatened or actual litigation; the public meeting began at 6:05 p.m.
Superintendent Mr. Malloy presented his report, noting positive feedback on student conduct at the Junior Achievement Career Fair and early successes in spring athletics. The board then moved to business items: minutes from March were approved, followed by general recommendations (items 1–3), which passed on a motion by Mr. Holmgren and a second by Mr. Orwig.
The board considered financial recommendations numbered 1–10 and approved them by roll call. Two members registered opposition on item nine, with Mr. Chiarella saying he had not had adequate time to review that item and Mr. Reddick recording a 'no' for the same reason; the motion on the full financial package nonetheless carried.
On personnel items the board approved recommendations 1, 2 and 4 by roll call. Separately, the superintendent recommended appointing John Williams as a part‑time cleaner at a salary of $15 per hour, effective April 4, 2026, contingent on satisfactory completion of all pre‑employment requirements; that motion was moved and carried on roll call.
During new business a board member raised a complaint that the auditorium sound system had not been adequate for a recent autism awareness presentation. District staff said the system is being evaluated and that the district is pursuing a grant to fund an upgrade to the auditorium speaker system.
The board set its next regular meeting for May 26 and adjourned.
