At its April 14 meeting, the Bristol City Council approved a slate of administrative actions ranging from appointments to procurement and a tax exemption for a local nonprofit.
Appointment: Council voted to appoint Rebecca Reeves to a vacancy on the Planning Commission and invited her forward for a photo.
Procurement: Following a competitive RFP process for professional engineering services for the integrated solid waste management facility (RFP SW‑26‑00003), staff reported four sealed proposals and interviews with two offerors; staff recommended SCS Engineers as best value and council authorized the city manager to enter into a contract with SCS Engineers.
Council also approved a cooperative‑procurement contract with Watson Furniture Group (Watson Consoles) for replacement dispatch consoles. Staff reported the total contract amount as $100,340.50; the equipment will ship from Watson’s North Carolina warehouse. Council approved the contract by roll call.
Nonprofit tax exemption: On second reading council adopted an ordinance exempting Theater Bristol from real property taxes under Va. Code §58.1‑3651, retroactive to the date of application. Staff reported an assessed value of $833,800 for the property and provided the tax amount from the notice period.
Consent and adjournment: Council approved consent‑agenda items (a street closure request for the Sounds of Summer Outdoor Music Series, March council minutes, and a resilience plan MOU with the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission) and then adjourned.
Votes at a glance: motions to authorize the SCS Engineers contract, to approve the Watson Consoles contract, to adopt the Theater Bristol exemption and to approve the consent agenda were all approved by roll call during the meeting.
