Lyon County Fiscal Court voted on Feb. 12 to accept articles of dissolution for the West Park Industrial Development Authority after staff outlined engineering and land-use obstacles that make the site unsuitable for development.
County staff summarized a multi-year history: the site was among statewide mega-site considerations in the mid-2000s but subsequent floodplain mapping, a new alignment of U.S. 641, and loss of adjacent option acreage reduced the site's developability. A recent engineering study concluded large portions are in the floodplain and that infrastructure costs (roads, electricity) would be prohibitive for meaningful industrial development.
The county attorney and staff told the court the state owns the land and that no county funds or assets remain in the IDA to redistribute; the Department for Local Government's changing reporting requirements prompted discussion about audits and compliance. Staff recommended dissolution as the practical administrative step. After motions and a second, the court carried the motion to accept the articles of dissolution.
Officials said dissolving the IDA does not require transfer of county assets because none exist and that, if the county wants to pursue new economic-development structures in future, creating an entity not subject to special-purpose-government reporting might be simpler.
