The Village of Corrales governing body on Feb. 11 approved a proclamation declaring Feb. 22, 2025, as Oly Reid Jr. Day, honoring the longtime journalist’s contributions to New Mexico reporting and community life.
Jolene Gutierrez Krueger read the proclamation recounting Oly Reid Jr.’s nearly five decades covering New Mexico, his work for the Albuquerque Journal and Albuquerque Tribune, numerous journalism awards, and community service in Corrales. The proclamation notes that Reid was a longtime Corrales resident and a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Mayor James F. Fahe Jr. then put the proclamation to a voice vote; the governing body approved it. The proclamation text also referred to planned local memorial events and a Feb. 22 celebration at Casava. The village will mark the date as an opportunity to recognize Reid’s impact on regional journalism and the Corrales community.
The council held routine business after the proclamation, including presentations and reports; no formal action beyond approval of the proclamation was recorded on the item.
