Morris council approves modest increase to fire relief annual benefit

The Morris City Council approved a resolution to raise the annual fire‑relief benefit for the Morris Fire Department from $2,550 to $2,700 per year of service, effective Jan. 1, 2026.
Acting City Manager Blaine explained the relief association requested the increase and staff had reviewed the association’s finances. “They do have the funds to be able to do this without any contribution by the city,” Blaine said, noting the association invests state fire aid and other receipts to fund payouts to retirees. He added that if investments dip below required levels, the city’s obligation under statute could trigger a partial contribution capped at a percentage formula.
Council approved the increase by roll call vote.
The resolution also included the council’s customary expression of thanks for firefighters’ service.
