Racine Unified presents $4.19M construction cost for Gilmore Fine Arts K–8; Park High design firm recommended

Administrators told the Racine Unified School Board at its April 13 work session that the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for construction work at Gilmore Fine Arts K–8 is $4,191,172, with a total project budget listed as $6,117,181. The work includes auditorium and dance-studio renovations (the dance studio occupies the former locker-room area), upgraded locker rooms, three science rooms that had not been renovated in 2018, and mechanical and structural upgrades such as a new generator, new ceiling tile, lighting and flooring.
A district presenter said the November 2025 projected total project budget was $6,117,181 and that the district is carrying that figure forward to 2026. The administration said the GMP and total project budget will move forward for consideration at the April business meeting.
On a separate facilities item, the district recommended that Plunket Racage Architects LLP be awarded RFP 26-003R to provide architectural and engineering services for Park High School renovations in the amount of $2,673,880. The review team recommended the firm; that award will also appear for consideration at the April business meeting.
No votes were taken during the work session. Board members were given the financial totals, a summary of planned scope for Gilmore and the Park High recommendation and were told each item will be presented at the April business meeting for approval.
The board’s presentations noted that some projects are funded from cash on hand and that project-by-project funding sources vary; the Gilmore project was described as a cash-designated project in the facility plan discussion.
Next steps: both the Gilmore GMP and the Park High architectural recommendation will be placed on the business meeting agenda for formal consideration and potential approval.
