District business services staff presented updates on budgeting, platform consolidation and facility planning at the Waunakee Community School District board meeting.
Anne (business services) outlined fiscal goals for the 2025‑26 year, including an end‑of‑year fund‑balance increase target of $1.1 million and continued monitoring of state special‑education categorical aid and property‑tax relief. Staff said they will finalize initial drafts of the '26‑'27 budget between May and July and will review the results of a community survey related to an operational referendum planned for November 2026.
Staff also described a planned consolidation of family and activity platforms: beginning in 2026‑27 the district will use Infinite Campus and Bound for registration, fundraising and athletic ticketing in order to reduce the number of platforms families must use.
On facilities, staff reported a previous estimate for geothermal and solar systems at the middle school of about $4 million. They also flagged a late afternoon email and social‑media post indicating a preliminary state budget framework that could increase special‑education categorical aid to 42% this year and 45% next year and include some form of property‑tax relief. Staff estimated that change could mean roughly a $1 million positive swing in district finances if the framework is finalized and signed by the governor.
Board members asked to schedule a summer workshop to review updated projections and referendum messaging in light of potential state budget changes. Staff said they will return with revised numbers and a recommended communications plan for community informational sessions.
