Community Development Director Johnson reported the city obtained a vacant parcel (221 17th Place) through a tax sale in November 2019 and has maintained the lot since. An adjacent neighbor to the west offered to purchase the lot to combine it with his parcel for a garage, wood shop and garden. Staff said the lot had been vacant for as long as records showed.
A council member moved and the council approved forwarding the offer for consideration at a regular meeting by roll call vote; the motion passed with all members recorded as yes at committee.
Why it matters: disposing of city‑owned vacant parcels can generate property tax revenue, reduce maintenance obligations and enable private redevelopment. The committee advanced the item so council can consider terms and conveyance at a subsequent meeting.
