Weston planning staff present 2025 annual report showing 19-year high in new-home construction

Roman and planning staff presented the 2025 Planning & Development annual report to the Plan Commission on April 13, highlighting historic residential construction activity and departmental workload.
The report compiles building-permit and valuation data back to 2018 and shows a large increase in new-home valuation in 2025; Roman said new-home construction accounted for about 75% of the department’s valuation last year, totaling north of $22 million. He described 2025 as a 19-year high for new-home construction in the village.
Staff also reported processing over 1,300 permits in 2025 and estimated the department conducted more than 2,000 inspections over the year. Roman said a typical new home requires no fewer than six inspections and often more when re-inspections are necessary; staff noted the department needs better inspection tracking to fully account for workload.
The packet includes historical charts, subdivision and certified-survey-map data, a breakdown of permit types and proposed annual reporting formats with GIS maps showing project locations. Staff said the report will be an annual deliverable in this format going forward and thanked Audrey for preparing graphics and maps.
