The Village of Weston Plan Commission voted April 13 to forward a recommendation to the Village Board supporting higher park-impact fees intended to better fund park maintenance and amenities.
Staff presented comparables from neighboring communities and recommended using parameters from a prior facilities-needs study to move proposed fees toward the study-backed maximums. In the packet staff cited proposed per-unit figures (single-family $761 and duplex $563) that reflect the recommended schedule; staff noted some comparator studies are older and that communities are updating their fees.
Commissioners debated the balance between raising fees to sustain park maintenance and protecting housing affordability. One commissioner urged caution to keep housing costs low; others said Weston’s park inventory and amenities justify a higher fee and that a modest increase would not make the village uncompetitive. Staff explained that impact fees must be tied to a facilities study and that funds collected must be used per study parameters and within statutory time limits.
A commissioner moved to approve the fee schedule as presented by staff (motion referenced as by Jordan); the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The commission will forward the recommended fee schedule to the Village Board for consideration and possible adoption. Staff said the recommended fee levels are advisory to the board and that the commission could recommend any level within the study parameters.
