Prince William County School Board honors dozens of student athletes for state, national titles

Board members and coaches introduced honorees from multiple districts: Gainesville High School’s boys indoor track and field Class 6 team (51 points), Osbourn Park High School’s girls basketball team (back‑to‑back VHSL Class 6 championships), Battlefield High School’s gymnastics squad (the program’s first state crown), and individual champions in track, wrestling and swimming. Coaches and principals described the training, leadership and community support behind the accomplishments.
Notable mentions included Joshua‑Kai Smith of Gar‑Field High School, who won the VHSL Class 6 state championship in the 55‑meter hurdles with a personal best of 7.05 and also won the Nike Indoor Nationals 60‑meter hurdles (personal best 7.59), ranking him among the top U.S. performers. Osbourn Park coach Chrissy Kelly and her players were celebrated for securing the county’s first back‑to‑back girls basketball state championships.
Superintendent LaTanya McDade and board members praised athletes and coaches for athletic and academic dedication. The board invited honorees forward for photos and asked communications to publish full rosters when releasing photos and names later in the week.
