Council awards transfer‑station siding contract at $124,260, far above carried budget

The Austin City Council authorized awarding a bid Oct. 6 to replace siding at the city transfer station after staff opened two informal bids and recommended the low bidder, Eagle Ridge Construction LLC, at $124,260.
Staff noted the city’s $70,000 budget number for the project was carried forward from several years ago and did not reflect inflation or current market conditions. The low bid exceeded that budget by roughly 77 percent; council members asked whether the fund used to pay the work (transfer station fund 62) would be depleted for other planned improvements.
Stephen Lang said the fund was created from historical lease revenues and currently has sufficient surplus to pay the project and still complete other planned work. He cautioned, however, that lease revenue is lower than it once was and staff will watch the fund closely.
Council approved the low bid and directed staff to monitor the fund and report any impacts to future planned work at the transfer station.
