Board advances $2026 bond projects, approves stadium and roof bids; construction timeline set

Key elements outlined included a complete renovation of Warrior Stadium (post-tension track, new synthetic turf with an organic Brock fill and shock pad to reduce surface temperature and impact forces), baseball and softball conversions to synthetic surfaces, fieldhouse renovations, science-lab and art-room modernizations, and a proposed Warren Activity Center — an indoor pre-engineered building with a 100-yard turf field, band tower and batting cages intended for year-round practice. Clayton said the materials and safety features were selected in part to reduce heat (the organic infill was described as 20–50 degrees cooler at the surface compared with rubber crumb) and to improve shock absorption.
At the same meeting the board approved staff recommendations to award the high-school roof replacement to Brown’s Roofing with a presented Guaranteed Maximum Price (staff presented a GMP figure of $3,356,517 and a base/alternates figure reported as about $2,637,500). The board also voted to accept bundled bid recommendations for the stadium renovation work and authorized the construction manager’s GMP that includes contingency (the total GMP figure for the bundled stadium package was presented during the meeting alongside base bids and alternates).
Board members asked for clarity on contingency use and minority/supplier-diversity outreach during the procurement process. Staff responded the contingency covers unforeseen site conditions (for example, underground environmental issues) and described outreach events and state vendor lists used to reach certified minority- or XBE-qualified firms. The administration said it would share pre-bid and advertisement dates with board members and continue supplier-diversity outreach as prime contractors and subcontractors are finalized.
Several project dates were mentioned: stadium work is slated to start in early May with a tight schedule targeted for completion before the fall football season; other bid dates and phased construction over 2026–2027 for middle-school upgrades and elementary additions were presented for board review and future approvals.
The board approved the bid awards and GMPs as presented and bundled the stadium and roof approvals into a single vote.
