North Babylon board recognizes student-athletes for sectional and state achievements

At the same meeting, Mr. Fzen recognized multiple student-athletes for county, sectional and state-level accomplishments across soccer, bowling, track and wrestling, including a sophomore state wrestling champion.
Mr. Fzen introduced a series of student recognitions, highlighting individual and team accomplishments from the fall and winter seasons.
He said the girls varsity soccer team reached the county semifinals and noted Brooke Milheiser (an All-State selection and third-year player) and Monica Clejo (junior; 18 goals and 18 assists this season; committed to Stony Brook in 2027) among the honorees. “Brooke is the first sophomore from North Babylon ever to be selected to the All State girls team,” he said.
Bowling honorees included Ethan (season average 219.7, high game 299, state competitor) and Nick Vono (224.6 average, a perfect 300 game and a 767 series; second place in Suffolk County and section 11 representative at states).
Track and field and cross-country athletes recognized included Sierra Hunt (junior; all-league, all-sectional shot put, New York state qualifier, Nike nationals qualifier) and Sage Smith (multiple school records, state qualifier and Newsday scholar-athlete recognition). The boys track standouts noted were Rejudson Pierre (long jump; state qualifier) and Jordan Pek (state champion in the 400 hurdles and two-time federation champion).
In wrestling, Mr. Fzen honored Melania Torano (junior; section runner-up and sixth in New York State at 138 pounds), Luca Torano (sophomore; section champion; fourth at state at 190) and Xavier (sophomore; 43-1 record and New York state champion at 110 pounds). Mr. Fzen thanked coaches, parents and families and asked the board to return to the dais.
The recognitions were presented as part of the board’s regular meeting agenda and involved coaches and student photo opportunities; no formal action was taken on the recognitions.
