The Cooke County Commissioners Court approved an EMS budget amendment to transfer funds from a salary line to an extra-help line so the department can staff open shifts with part-time personnel rather than pay overtime.
Wes, the EMS director, said the move would save the county money because captains have been covering open shifts and filling gaps with part-time employees when possible, reducing the need for overtime pay. "It saves the county money when we use part-time people as opposed to ... having a full-time person work overtime," Wes said.
The court approved the transfer by voice vote after a motion and second. The item passed unanimously.
