Principal Miss Kelly reported on instructional work and upcoming assessments, telling the board that kindergarten–second grade teachers completed a Nov. 5 professional development on a new portfolio platform and that grades 3–5 spent time analyzing Q1 benchmark data to prepare for Q2 benchmarks scheduled Dec. 16–19. She also noted the winter universal screener is planned for the week of Jan. 13 and that report cards will include dates to inform parents.
Kelly and other administrators described a schoolwide food drive with grade-level incentives and a lighthearted competition tied to a “bean trophy.” She highlighted student successes: seniors have made collegiate commitments and health science seniors began clinicals at a local nursing home.
District leadership described efforts to normalize law‑enforcement presence in schools, with local detectives and officers visiting classrooms to build relationships and reduce student anxiety when officers are on campus. Administrators said the visits included classroom conversations and informal interactions (lunch visits) intended to present officers as community supports rather than signs of incident response.
Director of Schools Dr Stricker provided staffing and enrollment figures: elementary enrollment 649 (16 fewer than last year), middle school 325 (seven fewer), high school 398 (10 more), for a district total of 1,372 as of the Nov. 19 enrollment pull. He also reported an interim hire from an MTSU job fair to help staff expected absences next semester and noted strategic compensation payments for the 2023–24 school year are scheduled for deposit on Nov. 26.
On facilities, the elementary roof project is near completion with a remaining small leak to be fixed before final payment; the fieldhouse excavation and geotechnical testing are complete and contractors anticipate foundation work and gravel placement in December. District staff said excess topsoil will be moved offsite and stockpiled for reuse.
Administrators closed by urging teachers and students to maximize instructional days before the holiday break and by reminding staff to watch district email for holiday event invitations and administrative updates.
