Tennessee High JROTC and middle‑school pilot brief board; instructors highlight leadership, growth to 40 cadets

He said the program follows an approved curriculum from the 7th Brigade at Fort Knox and emphasized that participation can help students whether or not they choose a military career.
Instructors and cadet leaders highlighted hands‑on activities, summer camps and community service events such as wreath drives for veterans and feeding programs for veterans. Tennessee High instructor Eric Morris said the district recently added a JROTC class at Tennessee Middle School, which produced about 40 new cadets this semester.
Cadet leaders spoke about leadership development and how the program shaped their post‑high‑school plans; one cadet said the program inspired an interest in teaching, and another said JROTC helped him feel a sense of belonging at school.
Board members thanked the instructors and cadets and noted the board’s interest in ensuring program capacity as it grows. No board action was taken; the presentation served as informational for the board’s CTE and extracurricular program oversight.
