Staff provided a ranked list of most-suggested names; the top options included "Rangeland / Ranchland," "Lake Manatee," and several location-based alternatives. Board discussion favored a non-person name to avoid the complications and community contention that can accompany naming buildings for individuals. Several board members voiced explicit support for a ranching-themed name—described in the meeting as "Rangeland"—as reflecting local history and community identity. One trustee noted potential confusion with existing schools if a directional suffix (for example, "East" or "North") were used.
Staff outlined a timeline to present a recommended shortlist for a board vote in May and said they will share survey results publicly; board members asked staff to proceed with the process and prepare a naming action for a future meeting.
