Normandy Schools Collaborative reaffirms Dr. Petty as board president; Mayor Monica Jefferson elected vice president

The Normandy Schools Collaborative Joint Executive Governing Board retained Dr. Petty as board president and elected Mayor Monica Jefferson as vice president during its April 14 meeting.
In nominations conducted at the dais, Director Diana Davis-Day nominated Dr. Petty for president and Director Milton Roberts nominated Director Erica Edwards. The board took individual roll-call votes and, with four yeses and three noes, Dr. Petty remained president. Mayor Monica Jefferson won the vice-presidency after a separate roll-call (four yes, two no, one abstention). Violet Taylor was re-elected secretary with four yeses, two noes and one abstention.
The meeting opened with the formal swearing-in of reelected directors Teresa Pearson and Violet Taylor and the newly elected board director, Mayor Monica Jefferson; State Representative Pamela Westbrook Hodge administered the oaths.
Board members also recognized outgoing board president William Humphrey for a decade of service. Humphrey told attendees that "our children deserve the best possible education that they can receive" and said he remains available to support the district.
The board conducted other routine business by roll call, including approval of the meeting agenda and several consent items. Before adjourning into executive session, the board accepted a proposal from the Normandy NEA; the meeting then moved to executive session for personnel.
What happens next: leadership changes take effect immediately; several items taken as first reads at the meeting (including a transportation contract renewal) will return for further review or formal action at upcoming work-session and May meetings.
