House Natural Resources Committee leaders on May 1 said they had reached agreement to advance a 14-bill unanimous-consent package that bundles multiple geothermal reforms, wildfire measures and Indian affairs items.
Chair Westerman described the package as bipartisan and said it includes six geothermal bills designed to streamline permitting, improve agency coordination, and update royalty rules; he entered a letter from the industry group Geothermal Rising supporting the geothermal bills into the record. The package also includes the Save Our Sequoias Act, measures to address hazardous fuels in shrubland through the Brushfires Act, several Indian and insular affairs items and studies and land transfers intended to resolve checkerboard land issues and create local benefits.
Committee members who spoke in favor said the package reflects sustained bipartisan negotiation and will move multiple small-bore and technical fixes forward together. "We have worked out an agreement on 14 bills scheduled for markup today," the chair said. Members thanked long-serving staff director Rob MacGregor, whose service the chair praised during the session.
The committee entered unanimous-consent motions and ordered these measures favorably reported, subject to any technical conforming changes prepared by staff and approved by the minority. The package will be accompanied by committee reports and proceed to the House under the committee’s scheduling process.
