Sun City West board approves combined bylaw revisions to shift election timing

The Sun City West Governing Board unanimously approved on Feb. 19 a consent motion to place consolidated bylaw revisions on the March 2026 election ballot that would enable the elections process to begin in January rather than November.
Director Becknell moved “that the governing board approve in gross revisions the bylaw articles 03, 04 and appendix 1 as red line for inclusion on the March 2026 governing board election ballot.” Director Williams seconded the motion and the board voted to approve it unanimously.
Directors asked how members would be notified of the changes. Meeting participants said the red-line documents have been posted on the website and in e-news, will appear in the March issue of the rec center news, and that direct mail and direct email will notify residents of the election and how to find candidate information. Katie (staff) said the rec center news and website will be used in compliance with state statute; the mailed direct-mail requirement for the annual meeting was discussed and staff said attorneys had advised that publication in the rec center news and website postings would satisfy notification for these bylaw revisions, and that the direct email would include a PDF attachment of the red-line changes.
The board combined the three proposed bylaw amendments into a single consent motion to expedite placement on the ballot; directors agreed those items had been discussed at prior meetings and could be consolidated for a single vote. The motion passed unanimously.
